The Book of Galloway
James Anderson Russell, 1963 rep of the 1st (1962) ed. 274pp inc index, map
frontis, 56 other ills, many of them photos. Scotland's most distinctive province,
according to my gazetteer, consists of the old counties of Wigtown and Kirkcudbright. VG
though spine is faded and d/w is missing. (ref 7970) £12.00
Ordnance Survey Map, 6", Sheet 39
Although someone has written on the back of this large multifolding map 'The
Parish of Buittle 1882', and in the top margin there's an embossed Ordnance Survey stamp
dated 1880, we can't find a date printed on the actual map later than 1853.
Moreover, Buittle is misleading as Buittle church is very close to the bottom right-hand
corner. Size of map approx 35"x24" plus margins, Castle Douglas is just
below the centre of the map, and Balmaghie church is in the top left-hand corner. A
couple of tears to old folds but quite clean. Hand coloured ink lines would appear
to be the Buittle parish boundaries. (ref 64/21) £12.00 UK

Ordnance Survey Map, 6", Sheet 45
Although someone has written on the back 'The Parish of Kelton 1882', and
embossed into the top margin is an Ordnance Survey seal dated 1878, we can't see a date
printed on the map after 1853. The map covers the area immediately South of the
sheet 39 listed above. A few minor holes where old folds cross. The face of
the map is quite clean but the back is very grubby. Hand-coloured ink lining
as above. (ref 64/22) £10.00 UK post-free or both maps for £18.00
