Dunvegan Castle - A Poem
Harold Steward Rathbone, 1900.  4to in blue/green bevelled boards, elaborate Celtic design & arms of MacLeod on front board.  20 ills from pastels & watercolours mainly by the author.  This historical poem extolls the virtues & exploits of the Clan MacLeod, for which Dunvegan Castle has been the stronghold for perhaps 800 years (the Castle even has its own web-site).  Teg, rest untrimmed, and though the front inner hinge is cracked we think you're unlikely to find a better copy on the market at the present time.  VG.  (ref 6776)  £40.00

The Life and Death of St Kilda
Tom Steel, 1975.  255pp paperback containing 47 photo-ills, some of them quite poignant.  The ravages of tetanus at the end of the 19th century left St Kilda as a community of old people supported by a decreasing number of able men by the 1920s.   In 1930 the remaining population of 36 were evacuated to the mainland.  Their dogs couldn't go with them and were all killed.  The history of the St Kildans after the evacuation makes sad reading.  Pages yellowing but G.  (ref 210/50)  £3.00 post-free within UK
